Position Summary:
The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist supports daily EHS operations at the assigned site under the general supervision of an EHS Management representative. The role focuses on implementing the Quidel Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and reducing workplace injuries, accidents, and environmental or safety non-compliance. This position works closely with employees across all departments to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities

Support the communication, awareness, and enforcement of Corporate and site-specific IIPP safety protocols.

Serve as a safety leader and provide guidance on OSHA, EPA, and internal policies related to environmental and safety compliance.

Assist with safety reporting, metrics tracking, Gemba walks, and promoting safety engagement at all organizational levels.

Participate in investigations of incidents, injuries, near misses, and environmental non-compliances; help develop effective corrective actions.

Conduct routine EHS inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal programs.

Evaluate hazardous job tasks and develop Job Safety Protocols, policies, and training to minimize risks.

Oversee hazardous and bio-waste management, including coordination with vendors, supply management, pickups, documentation, and inspections.

Lead Safety Committee meetings and drive associated safety improvement initiatives.

Coordinate emergency equipment inspections (e.g., fire extinguishers, eyewash stations) and manage first aid supplies with external service providers.

Maintain EHS documentation, including training records, permits, compliance calendars, and workers' compensation support.

Create, update, and deliver site-specific safety training programs.

Collect and report data on utilities, waste generation, chemical inventories, and other required environmental metrics.

Serve on the Emergency Response Team for medical, chemical, biological, and physical emergencies, including pandemic-related support.

Exercise authority to stop work during imminently hazardous conditions and recommend disciplinary actions for non-compliance.

Perform duties in alignment with business policies and quality management systems.
Qualifications Education & Experience

Associate degree in Environmental Health, Chemistry, Biology, or related field (required)

2–4 years of EHS experience; experience in medical, biotech, or pharmaceutical industries preferred

Working knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Strong communication and documentation skills

First Aid/AED & CPR certification

Hazardous Waste Management credentials

Ability to work independently with strong initiative

Commitment to ISO, FDA, and other regulatory quality systems
